In the nooks and corners of Lahore are these hidden gems, these small, scantily lit beauty salons run by simple minded yet frivolous business women. In parlours with walls decorated by posters of yesteryear beauty queens, out dated yet efficient seats with peeling faux leather, there are women running their own businesses, in places where you would least expect, making them the only place women consider as “theirs”. These women are an examples of resilience, valor and strength. They stand tall in this patriarchal consumer driven world, and make a livelihood from themselves and their families. These places, hidden from the outside world, become a microcosm for pulsating dreams, and often vanquished livelihoods.
